Don’t fall for these scams!

If a scam landed in your email inbox or mobile text messages, would you be able to pick it?

While most people consider themselves savvy enough to avoid being scammed, the truth is that there were 25,609 ATO scams reported to the ATO during the 2023 financial year.

Here are some tips on how to stay scam-free on the run to the holidays:

1. If you’re ever unsure whether what you’ve received is real, don’t click on links and don’t share it.

2. Always access the ATO website by typing ato.gov.au into your browser (not Google). If you don’t know the difference between a browser and Google, call Greg at Navig8 Your IT.

3. Never share your sign-in details for the ATO services. Oh, don’t write them in a book with “passwords” on the cover either.

4. Don’t give out your personal details such as your TFN, DOB, bank details, or anything else to people unless you trust them (no, you can’t trust the Nigerian Prince that’s been emailing you).

5. Perhaps the most important, use common sense. If it looks like a duck and it sounds like a duck, guess what? It’s a duck. So if something sounds like a scam, avoid it!

When it comes to keeping your financials safe and sound, you can take comfort in knowing that we have strict password management software that prevents anyone seeing or accessing your information. The privacy and security of your information is our number one priority… right alongside helping you grow.
